The rule of thirds is very basic, but also needs to be seen with your own mind. It's a way to frame an image, but not using the actually frame along the outside. The rule of thirds is dividing a photograph into nine sections, using four perpendicular lines. The crossing points of these lines are where you want your audiences' eyes to be focused on. It's where you have the main points.
